摘要：Dilation theory is a collection of results, tools and techniques in operator theory that all stem from one big idea: you can learn a lot about an operator by viewing it as a ``part of" of another, well understood operator. I will try to explain this big idea by way of examples. I will first discuss the most basic and classical dilation theorems and their applications. Then I will tell you about some recent results in dilation theory, and how these results interact with representations of C*-algebras, noncommutative tori, and the Heisenberg commutation relations.

简介：Orr Shalit 现为以色列理工大学教授，长期从事算子理论、算子代数和泛函分析的相关研究，在Dilation theory、Noncommutative function theory and noncommutative convexity、Hilbert function spaces of analytic functions and their multiplier algebras、Completely positive maps, operator spaces, and C*-correspondences等方面都做出过重要工作，成果发表在Adv.Math., JFA, IMRN, Math.Z.等杂志。
